Perfect for a cozy fall afternoon, this DIY Pumpkin Puffy Slime is soft, foamy, and so much fun for little hands. It’s a fantastic way to weave sensory play into your homeschool day — or just to make a rainy afternoon extra special!
Why we love this activity
There’s something about fluffy, squishy slime that feels like marshmallow clouds. Kids get to mix, measure, and watch it transform — and you get an activity that:
- Builds fine motor skills while they stir, squeeze, and knead
- Math: Measuring & Following instructions.
- Reading & Comprehension: Following a recipe.
- Encourages creativity when they add their favorite extras (like foam balls or glitter!)
- Hands-on science experiment: watching ingredients react, cause & effect.
- Problem Solving: Too sticky? Add more lens solution.
- Keeps them engaged for a surprisingly long time

Ingredients
- 2/3 cup white school glue
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup water
- Orange food coloring
- 2 cups foam shaving cream
- Lens solution (BioTrue brand works best)
- Optional: foam balls, glitter, or sequins for extra sensory fun

Step by Step Directions
1
Add 2/3 cup glue and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda to a bowl. Mix well.
2
Stir in 1/4 cup water until smooth.
3
Add orange food coloring a few drops at a time until you reach your perfect pumpkin shade.
4
Gently fold in 2 cups foam shaving cream for that fluffy texture.
You may continue to add food coloring.
5
Start adding 1 tablespoon lens solution (BioTrue worked best for us!) and mix. Keep adding 1 tablespoon at a time until the slime begins to pull away from the bowl..
6
Transfer slime onto a clean table and knead for 5–10 minutes. If it sticks to hands or table, rub a bit of lens solution on your hands and surface.
7
For extra sensory fun, mix in foam balls, glitter, or sequins.
Tips for Parents
- Store slime in an airtight container. Over time, it will lose some fluff but remain fun to play with.
- Keep your lens solution handy — if the slime starts to get sticky, a few drops will bring it back to life.
Slime Accidents Happen!
Slime Antidote: If slime ends up on clothes, soak the spot in vinegar, rinse with warm water, and toss it in the wash.
The sooner you do this, the easier it will come out!
