If you are anything like me, you love finding activities that are not only fun but also safe for our little ones. Let’s be honest, no matter how hard we try, everything ends up in our little ones mouths. If you add a few older siblings to the mix, this job gets harder, especially if you have legos in the house! This is why I am excited to share one of my favorite taste-safe play-doh recipe that siblings of all ages can enjoy, and you can have some peace of mind!
Play-doh offers a large number of benefits including sensory play, fine motor skills development, problem solving, creativity, bilateral coordination. But traditional store-bought play-doh, while fantastic for older kids with its vibrant colors and sets, is not the best option when you have a “mini vacuum” that picks up everything.
This is where this taste-safe play-doh recipe comes in! The older children can even participate in making this taste-safe play-doh recipe ( another large number of benefits come along with this!). While this recipe is not a “snack”, you can have a peace of mind knowing that if it does (and most likely it will) make its way into their mouths, it’s harmless. One of my favorite parts of this taste-safe play-doh recipe is that it uses ingredients you most likely already have in your kitchen! That’s right! There is no need to buy another craft and bake set or look for those special craft ingredients.

Tips For Tast-Safe Play-Doh
- Storage: Wait until completely cooled and store in an air-tight container or ziploc (make sure air is removed)
- Renew: If it starts to crystalize, break into sections and run under some water for a couple seconds (no more) and knead until it becomes soft.
- Prepare Surfaces: Before play lightly oil surfaces and wooden tools with olive oil or vegetable oil, this will keep the play-doh from sticking and keep it hydrated/soft.
- Add Texture: For added sensory exploration you can add sprinkles, cereal, oats, rice, dried flowers, tea leaves
- Add Scents: Feel free to add scents these can be food flavoring or high grade essential oils.
- Non Taste-Safe options: gems, sparkles,
